When it comes to jewellery, Kate Moss’s taste has always been brilliantly eclectic. Since making her first major purchase at Pennisi, a fabled antique jeweller in Milan, in the ’90s, the supermodel has collected everything from antique bracelets studded with Indian rubies to vintage rings starred with Colombian emeralds. “I would definitely recommend people look for jewellery when they are travelling, it’s something I always do and I have favourite places I return to whenever I am in that particular city,” she previously told Vogue. “Also, antique stores and markets are brilliant if you are into vintage pieces, as I am.”

So, when Moss decided to partner with luxury French house Messika on a 70-piece collection in 2020, she naturally turned to her own archive as a starting point. “I did an edit of my jewellery, taking out all sorts of pieces,” she explained to British Vogue’s contributing fashion director Kate Phelan. After digging through her treasures, the house’s founder and creative director Valérie Messika promptly set about translating Moss’s favourites into high jewellery pieces that could be worn every day, marrying the finest quality diamonds with bold malachite and turquoise.

Now, the creative pair is releasing a second drop during Paris Fashion Week, unveiling an additional 36 pieces in a model showcase at the Ritz on 3 October. “It’s been a really fun and collaborative process,” Kate adds, noting that the finished collection is a true reflection of the jewellery she wears on a day-to-day basis. “Valérie would message me photographs of all the designs, and I would give my feedback. As with clothes, I wear lots of different styles of jewellery, and you can really see that in what Valérie has created.”

If Messika’s original collection with Moss marked its first foray into working with coloured stones, Messika by Kate Moss 2.0 offers up sensuous pieces in opal, mother of pearl, and onyx. There are, of course, highly covetable necklaces, bracelets, and rings – but there are also more bohemian creations styled as Moss would wear them. Take the many delicate headdresses, which call to mind the one Moss gifted to models Jordan Barrett and Fernando Casablancas during their recent Ibiza wedding. “In the end, it’s so much about the way you wear the pieces – as ever,” Moss concludes.
